2010 PRO-LATE MODEL RULES

DISCLAIMER
The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND OR REGULATIONS. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official. The race director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his/her opinion does not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final.
PROTESTS
1. Only drivers may protest. Protesting drivers and protested cars must have finished in the top five and be on the lead lap. All protests must receive an approval from the Tech Director. Spite protests and unsportsmanlike protests will not be accepted.
2. All protests must be submitted to MMS Tech Director in writing within 10 minutes of feature race completion, and be accompanied by $250 CASH. The driver who wins the protest will receive $225. Driver can only protest 3 times in one season and must wait three weeks before protesting again.
3. Drivers or cars found illegal forfeits all points and moneys earned for the entire race meet.
4. Refusal to comply with protest or to tear down when instructed by MMS Officials will result in a fine equal to protest amount, an automatic two event point suspension, and loss of points and money earned for the event. Upon returning to competition driver must agree to tear down after racing events for free.
GENERAL RULES
These rules are intended to produce a fair and competitive field of like cars and are subject to change as needed, without notification or justification. The MMS Management reserves the right to refuse any competitor without reason or justification. The intent and interpretation of the rules will be the decision of the Race Officials and/or MMS Management. If there are any questions regarding the legality of any part(s), the burden of proof lies with the competitor.

1. WEIGHT
A. All specified weight requirements will be with gas, oil, water, driver and all equipment prior to racing.
B. Maximum left side weight is 58% of the total weight at all times, without fueling.
C. Minimum weight For Built two barrel engines 2750 lbs. for ABC bodies, for non-ABC bodies, 50 lb. penalty. Crate Engines, 2700 lbs. NO downforce bodies.
D. Added weight must be in block form no less than 5 lb. blocks, NO pellets. Added weight must be securely bolted in place. Dislodged weight may not be returned to car for weighing after race.
All added weight must be painted white with the car number in red or black. Any lost weight will result in a $10 per pound, fined to the Driver.
2. ENGINES
A. Crates
1. GM # 88958604 with the following updates, rocker arms GM 12370839 (1.6 rocker) Valve Spring # PHM 701 available from Phil Harper Motorsports. Champ oil pan # CP106LTRB and Balancer. Ford # M06007‐D347‐SR with 1.6 rockers. Mc Gunegill Ford # ASA 425LM with 1.5 rockers.
2. All sealing bolts must remain as installed from factory. Removal of sealing bolts will result in disqualification. NOTE: See Carburetor and Ignition sections. The following engine shops are authorized MMS rebuild/repair facilities for the crate engine:

Only the top five drivers finishing a race, their crew chief or owner may claim a crate engine from a driver finishing the race ahead of the claiming driver. The claim will be limited to one car and must be made within 10 minutes after the feature is completed, $100 cash only, paid to the Tech Director. The claim fee will be the current price of the crate engine plus $100. The fee will be distributed to purchase a new crate engine for the driver being claimed plus $100 pulling fee. Carburetor, water pump, distributor and pulleys are not included with the claims. A claim fee will not be accepted if it is determined that the claim fee was made on behalf of another or more than one party.
Failure to pull and sell a claimed engine will result in the driver being claimed forfeiting all purse and points for that event and all track points for that season. Driver must pay a $1,000 fine prior to competing at MMS again.
B. Built
Displacement, maximum 362 CID, V8 only.
C. Block, Cam Shaft and Lifters
1. General Motors, Ford or Chrysler cast iron small block only. Four bolt mains permitted with steel caps. Plugs may be used in blocks for strength only. Plugs must not be higher than block surface.
2. Solid lift cam and lifter permitted. NO roller tappet cams or lifters permitted.
3. Wet, dry or accusump oiling systems and racing oil pans permitted.
3. ENGINE PLACEMENT
1. Measured from the center of #1 spark plug hole to the center of the top ball joint within 1/4" tolerance. Chevrolet 4", Ford 4".
2. Engine must be in center of frame with 1" tolerance.
3. Center of crankshaft to ground clearance 10" with 1/4" tolerance.
4. CRANK, RODS AND PISTONS
1. After market steel crank permitted with stock stroke +/‐ .020". Chevrolet 350 may use a 3.480" stroke steel crank. Ford 302 may use a stroked steel crank, stroke is not specified. Cranks may be balanced and debured.
2. Stock‐appearing after market steel or steel billet rods and H beam rods permitted at any length, no titanium rods permitted. Polishing or machine work not permitted on rods, except for balancing.
3. Flattop pistons only.
5. CYLINDER HEADS
1. Only cast iron, 23 degree OEM typed heads permitted. Angle cut, angle plug, dart type, high compression or 300 HP. Chevrolet heads allowed. No SB 2 or SB 3 heads permitted.
2. No polishing, porting, or matching of ports allowed in any manner.
3. No extra pins allowed in heads. Ford head may be posted with stiffners on intake side of head.
4. O‐rings permitted in Ford head or block.
5. Adjustable after market, roller rocker arms and shaft rocker arms permitted. Polly locks are permitted.
6. 7/16" screw in studs and guide plates permitted. Studs may be pinned. Stud girdles are permitted.
7. Maximum valve size: Chevrolet and Chrysler intake 2.05" exhaust 1.600. Ford intake 2.02"/ exhaust 1.60". Neck down valves permitted. No titanium valves. Maximum under size .010.
8. Racing valve job permitted with maximum of 3 angles on valve seat and valve face permitted. No blending valve job to casting in head.
9. High performance springs and retainers permitted.
6. INTAKE MANIFOLD
1. High performance cast‐iron and aluminum intake manifolds permitted. Intake manifolds must be approved by MMS officials.
2. No altering, polishing, porting or matching of ports allowed in any manner. No laser treating or micro holes allowed. Plenum may not be altered and no devices are permitted inside runners.
3. Stuffer permitted in Ford or Chrysler intakes.
7. EXHAUST MANIFOLD
1. Any type single flange steel tubular header permitted. Exhaust system must exit behind driver.
8. STARTER
1. All cars must start under its own power.
9. CARBURETOR
1. General Motors and Ford crate engines ‐ Holly 650 HP 4150‐80541 four barrel. No alterations.
2. Holly 2300 two‐barrel number 7448.
3. Body of carburetor ‐ no polishing, grinding, or drilling of holes permitted. No paint or any other type of coating other than from carburetor manufacturer allowed inside or outside of carburetor.
4. Choke and choke horn may be removed, but all screws must be permanently sealed.
5. Booster can be tapered below center line and center bar can be removed. Total booster length .700", center hole in booster cannot exceed .470.
6. Venturi area must not be altered in any manner. Casting ring must not be removed.
7. Base plate must not be altered in shape or size.
8. Stock butterflies must not be thinned or tapered. One idle hole may be drilled per butterfly. Screw ends may be cut even with shafts, but screw heads must remain unaltered.
9. "HP throttle shafts allowed. No silicone or epoxy allowed on throttle shafts."
10. Any attempt to pull outside air other than down through venturis in not permitted.
11. A minimum of two return springs is required. Throttle stops recommended.
12. Only one non‐adjustable, one‐piece solid aluminum carburetor spacer permitted. Maximum height of 3/4", with 1 paper gasket per side; not to exceed .065" in thickness. Spacer must have two holes with openings cut perpendicular, matching carburetor base and no larger than base or carburetor. No taper or beveling permitted.
13. GM Crate Motor spacer maximum height 1" aluminum, open or 4 hole type allowed or VDL tapered spacer only. Ford Crates will not be allowed to run any spacer.
10. AIR CLEANER
1. The only approved cold air box is manufactured by Five Star and it must have proper part numbers.
2. Air cleaner cannot be removed at any time during the competition or practice.
3. Element may not be sprayed of soaked with any type of chemicals or liquids.
4. Nothing may direct or control the flow of air inside the air cleaner housing except the air cleaner element.
5. No sheet metal heat shields or any other type of hot air deflection device or airflow deflection device allowed past the backside of the radiator or in engine compartment.
11. TRANSMISSION
1. Must have OEM factory type transmission with at least two forward and one reverse working gears. Jerico type transmission permitted.
2. No Rankin direct drive type, quick‐change or automatic transmissions permitted.
12. CLUTCH
1. Multiple disc clutches with steel floaters and pressure plates permitte4d, minimum 5 1/2" in diameter. No carbon fiber or fiberglass discs.
2. Clutch housing assembly or cover may be made of steel or aluminum.
3. Aftermarket, homemade and 3/4 ton spindles permitted. Must be steel only.
13. BRAKES
1. Front and rear disc brakes mandatory. Any caliper permitted.
2. Only cast steel rotors permitted. Rotors must maintain a minimum of 3/4" thickness and cannot be drilled or slotted completely through.
3. No carbon fiber, fiberglass, or titanium brake parts allowed.
A. Brake Cooling
1. A maximum of one scoop per wheel with the opening on the front air dam fully covered with screen and no larger than 3"x8", mounted on the inside of the front air dam. Maximum two hoses per brake, with a maximum 3" flexible hose to the brake.
2. Fans or blowers in the brake cooling system not permitted.
3. Brake fluid circulators permitted. Liquid or gas cooling not permitted.
14. IGNITION
1. Breaker less, or dual point systems permitted. Ignition booster, racing coils, or high performance ignition wires permitted. No magnetos or crank trigger ignition systems.
2. Alternators permitted.
3. Only one battery permitted. Maximum 16 volt battery mounted securely outside driver's compartment.
4. All wiring must be sealed. No unplugged wiring.
5. All ignition components (Coil & MSD systems only). Only one ignition box. Box must be mounted on dash area in plain view and out of driver's reach.
6. No traction control devices, electronic or otherwise, will be permitted. Use of traction control will be cause for immediate disqualification and suspension from future racing events.
7. Crate motors Mandatory 6300‐6500 rpm chips.
15. TIRES AND WHEELS
A. Tires
1. Hoosier 2045's on left side and Hoosier 2070's on right. No soaking or altering or tire in any manner allowed.
Drivers soaking or altering tires will forfeit all purse and points for the event and all track points for the year.
Driver must also pay a $1,000 fine prior to being allowed to compete at MMS.
MMS Officials reserves the right to confiscate illegal tires.
2. Maximum tread width allowed is 66", NO TOLERANCE.
Tread width is measured from the left center of tire to the right center of tire. Spacers are permitted.
B. Wheels
1. 10" Racing steel wheels only.
2. No air bleeders permitted.
3. NO BLOWERS OR HOSES WILL BE ALLOWED TO BLOW AIR ON THE TIRE OR WHEEL.
16. SHOCKS AND SPRINGS
A. Shocks
1. Racing shocks are permitted. Only one shock per wheel. Adjustable shocks are allowed.
B. Springs
1. Only Steel Coil or bucket type springs are permitted. NO Titanium! Only one spring per wheel.
17. REAR ENDS
1. Quick change and open tube rear ends are permitted.
2. No independent rear suspension or cambered rear ends permitted.
3. Damper shocks are permitted.
4. No titanium axles.
18. FUEL CELL
TRACK FUEL REQUIRED. MINIMUM PURCHASE REQUIRED AT EACH EVENT. This will be the only fuel permitted to be used and must be unaltered. Random fuel samples will be tested. Alcohol, nitro‐methane, nitrous oxide, other oxygenating agents, or other additives are not permitted. Use of such substances or additives will result in immediate disqualification.
1. Manual, block mounted stock type fuel pumps only. Electrical fuel pumps are not allowed.
2. No icing, Freon type chemicals or refrigerants may be used in or near the fuel system or engine compartment. No cooling of fuel cell or fuel system.
3. Fuel cell is mandatory. Maximum capacity of 22 gallons, vented with maximum 1" vent to outside left rear of body.
4. Fuel cell must have a minimum of two, 1" square tubing, protection braces wrapping around fuel cell from front, underneath and to back of cell. Fuel cell must have a rear protection bar of 1.75" tubing extending below the rear of frame and at least 1/2" below the bottom of fuel cell to cover the width of the fuel cell. Minimum ground to fuel cell 8".
19. DRIVE SHAFT
1. Steel or Aluminum drive shaft only. Drive shaft must be painted white or silver.
2. Minimum of one 360 degree loops, 1" x 1/8" steel.
20. SWAY BARS
1. The main body of the front swab bar must be made of steel and may be splined for attaching to the main body. Helm joints may be used for attaching the sway bar arms to the lower control arms.
21. ROLL CAGE
1. MMS Officials must approve roll cage designs. Round steel tubing 1 3/4" OD round tubing by .090" (minimum wall thickness) must be used to construct roll cage.
2. Roll cage should be box type with a cross support in the back and a minimum 9" upright support at the left front support.
3. Left door must have four bars and must have 1/16" minimum steel plate on all door bars.
A. Frames
1. Straight rail, perimeter and OEM front clip frames are permitted.
2. No chassis adjustment from inside car, except for brakes.
3. Frame and roll cage (including weight box) must be inside of left front and left rear tires.
22. BODY
REFER TO 2010 ABC RULEBOOK FOR ALL BODY RULES.
No panels allowed extending top edge of doors. The car body must be acceptable to MMS Officials at all times. No car will be allowed to start a race without a full body. Use of headlight and tail light decals recommended.
23. INTERIOR
1. Car interior must be complete and shield driver from ground, engine, compartment and fuel cell area. Firewall must be no less than 24 gauge metal and fully seal driver from engine compartment.
2. Car may have an installed dash panel with optional gauges. No digital gauges permitted. No in‐car timing devices during competition.
3. ON‐OFF switch must be located on dash and from outside left window opening for easy access to driver. ON‐OFF positions must be clearly marked.
4. Quick release steering wheel is mandatory. Center top section steering post must be padded with at least 2" of padding material.
5. All roll bars surrounding driver must be padded. Padding must be acceptable to MMS Officials.
6. Window net must be installed in the left side door glass opening. The window net must be a rib type, made from nylon material with a minimum 1" square opening between the ribs. Minimum window net size is 22" wide by 16" high. All window nets must have quick release mechanism and be welded to roll cage. Window net must secure tightly when in closed position.
7. Rear view mirror permitted inside of car only.
8. A strap‐type neck restraint will be mandatory.
24. COOLING SYSTEM
1. All cars must have catch can or hose to exit at windshield.
2. Only water will be allowed in cooling systems. Any additives (i.e. Water Wetter) must be pre‐approved by Chief Tech. Drivers using unapproved additives must pay a $100 fine before competing at MMS.
*Special Notes:
1. NO on‐board computers, traction control devices, automated electronics, recording devices, cam‐recorders or filming devices, telemetry devices, automatic lap scoring/timing devices (other than those issued by MMS officials) or digital read out gauges are not permitted.
2. Microprocessors or electronic memory chips are not permitted. Violations are subject to fines, imposed and enforced by MMS Management and/or Tech Director of MMS.
