MONTGOMERY, AL. (November 19 2009) Long-time racing public relations specialist William Desmond has been named Public Relations Director for Montgomery Motor Speedway.
Desmond who served as Director Public Relations for Bob Harmon's All Pro Super Series from 1980 – 1986 was named for the position today by Bobby Knox, Montgomery Motor Speedway owner.
"Bill, whose enthusiastic personality helped put life back into our track as PA announcer with Doug Carwile in 2009 has had extensive experience in the Public Relations field both with All Pro and NASCAR," said Knox. "2009 was a growing year for our facility, which sat dormant for over two years, stated Knox, but for 2010 we plan to move forward with new racing ventures and programs. I wanted somebody who knows the business, has many contacts in the racing world and can communicate with the public. Bill's knowledge and experience lends itself to what I want done at Montgomery. We are pleased that he agreed to take on this added responsibility in addition to continuing his PA duties with Carwile".
When Desmond was with NASCAR he handled media responsibilities for two of their short-track touring series throughout the Southeast and Midwest regions of the United States. Desmond worked alongside Harmon when he created the All American 400 and World Crown events in the early 80's. The respect he has throughout the racing community is extensive from both print and electronic media personnel.
"I am humbled to be asked to assist Bobby Knox and Montgomery Motor Speedway in any capacity," said Desmond, a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel. "Bob Harmon was the best and I learned so much from him and Rex Robbins, former owner of the American Speed Association," continued Desmond. "I know the challenges are many for the Knox family in this second year of operation and I hope I can play a small part in the success of the track throughout the Montgomery area."
"We have outstanding race fans and teams that have supported the track this year," commented Desmond, "and we look forward to making their racing experiences rewarding."
Desmond and his wife Marjorie reside in Prattville, Al.
