Montgomery, Al. (Jan 18 2010) -Deatsville, Al. racer Billy Ammons definitely is in the right frame of
mind with his positive attitude about, "The future is all in what you make it".
Ammons is ready to change from his past, as a Street Stock competitor, since his 2009 racing
season was not what he would call one of the best, despite winning a second Street Stock
Championship at South Alabama Speedway, and move into another division of racing.
"We suffered two major racing incidents in 2009 with two destroyed race cars, I had medical
problems, my dad had medical problems, and two trips to Rockingham Speedway in North Carolina
to participate on a superspeedway only to see our efforts dimmed by early race incidents.
Not what you would call a good year," Ammons stated.
Now after nine years of competing in the Street Stock Division at both Montgomery and Opp,
Alabama tracks Ammons has decided it is time to compete in a different class of race cars.
He will be competing in Late Model type cars in 2010.
"Bobby Knox, new owner of Montgomery Speedway has definitely opened some eyes in central
Alabama with the work he has accomplished at the historic half-mile track," commented Ammons.
"The new racing surface, new grandstands, friendly officials and the tough competition
has once again put Montgomery as one of the best asphalt race plants in the South. I
like to compete against the best and the best is going a little faster these days."
"I am not getting any younger and I want my future to continue to be as exciting as the past,
said Ammons, so it is the time to go a little faster," quipped the likeable but reserved
driver who has multiple Street Stock Championships at both Montgomery and Opp. "Bobby has
really opened some eyes with his idea of 'Show Me The Money,' a 125-lap race paying $5,000
to win. That just blows my mind that he would pay that amount to win," continued Ammons,
"and I want to get my share."
"My entire family is involved in our racing program and my wife, Ashley and kids, have
always supported my desire to compete in racing."
Augie Grill, Hayden, Al. is the defending champion of the 2009 "Show Me The Money" races.
He holds that title after winning the final event of 2009, edging out Jason Young of
Houston, Tx. by just ten points. Joining Grill and the "Alabama Posse" will be John Bolen,
Jasper, Al., Hunter Robbins, Montgomery, Al. and Justin Bonnett, Hueytown, Al. These four
will attempt to hold off challenges from the Georgia Gang comprised of Bubba Pollard,
T. J. Reaid, Casey Elliott and Kristen Wallace, the only female Late Model driver competing
at Montgomery.
Joining Ammons in 2010, and competing at Montgomery in the Late Model Division will be
Chase Knox, Bobby Knox Jr., Tyler Miles, Josh Belter, Chance Atkins, Justin Caton, Tyler
Caton, Bill Bethea III, Blake Ferguson, Chris Serio, Jeff Morgan, Brad McPherson, Greg Jones
and others.
An opening event Media Day will be held on March 12, followed by an open practice. Another open practice
will be on March 13. Join the crowd at Montgomery Motor Speedway on March 20 for the 2010 opening event.
