Ammons takes win in wild Street Stock feature/Crocker takes Bama Budweiser Mod Mania Crown

Ammons takes win in wild Street Stock feature/Crocker takes Bama Budweiser Mod Mania Crown (Montgomery, AL) – Saturday night was one for the ages at Montgomery Motor Speedway. Motorcycle stunts, track records, and wild racing filled the night of action. In the debut of the Capital Recycling Bomber division, it was Jerry Goff setting the first track record for the new class at Montgomery Motor Speedway turning a lap of 25.380 seconds around the half-mile. Goff then went on to battle it out with Jay Jay Day in the 15 lap feature. Both drivers led laps and raced hard, but it was Goff finding himself in victory lane in the end. The Trucks made their return to the Montgomery speed plant. In qualifying, it was Cody Haskins setting a new track record of 20.509 seconds, breaking Brittany Finley's nearly three-year-old record. It was Kristen Wallace, however, who set the early pace leading a total of 17 laps. She couldn't hold of Haskins, though, who went on to win by a close margin. Wallace finished second, with Gary Roberson rounding out the podium. Bama Budweiser Modified's had an interesting turn of events Saturday night in qualifying. Cintronelle, AL's Donald Crocker actually tied the track record set by late model standout Bubba Pollard back in 2009. Crocker's lap of 19.415 put him on the pole for the 35 lap feature, which paid $1000 to win. Crocker led every lap en route to victory over Billy Melvin, Brandon Howell, Donnie Hamrac, and Brandon Curren. In the 15 lap Buzz feature, it was Roger Wood Jr. returning to his winning ways. He led the final 8 circuits en route to victory over Floyd Brown, Jacob Capps, Joshua Wood, and Truss Bethea Sr. The win vaulted Roger Wood Jr. to second in the championship standings, just 9 markers behind Joshua Wood. Floyd Brown, Tim Grace, and Perry Patino round out the top five in the standings. The Street Stock division put on a great show for the fans. The 25 lap feature saw four different leaders, and plenty of action. Wrecks took out some of the top contenders, but it was Billy Ammons who prevailed over Joe Bethea Jr., Daniel Jacks, Jody Henderson, and Jason Mayhan. The win moved Billy Ammons to a two-point lead over Bethea in the championship hunt. Sitting third in points now is Daniel Jacks, with Jason Mayhan and Richard Patino rounding out the top five. The major headline of the night, however, was the show put on by motorcycle stunt rider Bubba Blackwell. Blackwell wheeled his Harley performing many different stunts, and burnouts, to impress the roaring crowd. The final stunt for Blackwell was his amazing jump. Montgomery Motor Speedway will return to action on June 02, with the second leg of the Show Me the Money Series for the Pro Late Model division. Defending champion Hunter Robbins sits atop the standings again after the first race, but it's still a wide-open battle with five races remaining. Local divisions will join the late models in action on June 02 as well.
