Chris Carter Named General Manager of MMS
"Montgomery Motor Speedway has a long storied history that includes being known as one of the best racetracks in the Southeast. It always has great finishes and some of the best side by side racing there is to offer and that is how we want to keep it here at MMS," said new General Manager/Promoter Chris Carter.
MMS owner Bobby Knox hired Carter two weeks ago and he immediately went to work in publishing the 2012 rules and the 2012 Show Me the Money Pro Late Model Series schedule.
"I know the drivers want to have everything regarding next year right now," Carter said, "I am not here to make wholesale changes, obviously someone (Knox) has been doing something right because there's a fine half mile facility still operating in Montgomery, AL."
Carter has confirmed that the first race of the 2012 season, March 31, will have NASCAR Hall of Fame driver and 1983 Winston Cup Champion Bobby Allison as the event's Grand Marshall, and you can expect more announcements regarding the first race in the near future.
One of the things at the top of Carter's list is lowering some prices and making a family fun night at the track affordable again. He also is working on bringing the Super Late Models to compete at MMS as well as a Tampa Bay Area Racing Association Sprint Car race.
"I have a long list, so much to do in such a short time, I want the drivers, the fans, the media or whoever to know that I will listen, there is no doubt in my mind that there is so many people out there that go, 'you know if they tried this...', well I am open to listening to that person".
Carter most recently worked for Rick Crawford at Mobile International Speedway last year as the track announcer, and has been involved with MIS since the late 90's.
"When Cale Gale came along at MIS I will be the first to tell you I grabbed that kid by the coat tail and I never let go. I know for a fact if Cale would not have let me be a part of his career from that day I grabbed him, that I would not be in the position I am in now. I learned so much at all levels of racing including being the General Manager/Promoter at Sunny South Raceway in 2008, a quarter mile Legends track. I knew I had my hands full the second I was told it was my job to take, I didn't expect it to happen actually, but it did and we had a successful year".
"I want to thank Bobby Knox for this opportunity, this is what I live for and no doubt this is a dream come true. I also want to thank Ricky Brooks and the many many others that have played a part in this happening especially two of my mentors: Chris Knight and Courtney Sauter, and a special thank you to Eddie Pearson.
